I’m a redhead. I have a lot to say.

Maybe it’s because I am an only child. Or maybe it’s my Scotch-Irish heritage. I have strong opinions and I feel compelled to express them. Writing and designing, however, has taught me that listening is just as important as talking.

The best thing my parents ever did growing up was provide me with an endless supply of books and art supplies. I read and read and read, then talked and talked and talked. And drew - a lot. I had much to express.

The second best thing my parents ever did was listen.

It took me a little longer to discover that I was a good listener, too. My parents taught me the art of asking questions, which led me to pursue a career in writing, marketing, and communications. Asking questions sparked deeper conversations, which also helped me to develop some extraordinary friendships. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it has given me a wonderful life.

After college, I received a one-year independent research grant from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation to study musicology in fourteen countries across four continents. I conducted interviews, scoured historical archives, and wrote countless stories and letters. My travels taught me that communication happens soul-to-soul, even when language is a barrier. All it takes is a love for people and a genuine interest in their perspectives.

Since returning from my year of exploration, I have specialized in working with churches, nonprofits, and individuals to perfect their brands and create memorable messaging.

Outside of work, my husband and I have three beautiful, inquisitive children to whom we now provide ample books and art supplies. My eldest daughter and twin toddlers force me to exercise my skills in active listening every day. “Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom…”

The funny thing is, my children talk even more than I did.
The reward is, they ask the most fascinating questions. They keep me thinking. And great thinkers become great creators.

When I am not writing or designing, I spend time with my family, practice harp, bake pastries, furiously cross-stitch, and read. And talk - a lot.

“Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors.”
